Greetings All,

I have an Australian Shepherd named Max, 6.5 years on the planet, intact male.

Raw Fed (Whole Prey Model) since he was weaned:
WHOLE PREY: Rabbits & Guinea Pigs
GROUND Whole Prey: Bison, Elk, Venison, Rabbit, Guinea Pigs, Quail, Pheasant, Pork, Llama, Alpaca, Goat, Beaver, Green Tripe.

FOOD SOURCES: HARE-TODAY.com and MYPETCARNIVORE.com

Dehydrated Organ Meat for Treats.
No vaccines EXCEPT one Parvo and one Distemper jab, one month apart, at about five and six months of age.

I worked for a while with a classical homeopath.
She gave him Phosphorous as his constitutional remedy.

Currently Max is, as he has always been since a puppy, vibrant, energetic, has a brilliant, bright mind, i.e. "smart as the dickens", an amazing appetite, and ever-at-the-ready to do "what's next", not overweight (in fact he lost 3 lbs.), and his coat is shiny and beautiful.

Supplements:
• 8.28. 2017 - Thytrophin 1 tab BID (per Jean Dodds)
• 10.9.2019 - WP Thyroid 3 grains BID (per Jean Dodds 10.9.19)
• About to Start: Dr. Dobias's Minerals and Vitamins for Dogs.

Chiropractic and Physical Therapy Sessions (for injuries sustained during a Coursing Ability Trial): About six times annually or as needed.

Here are his current issues.
NOTE: Issues #1 below would be the issue that needs input immediately since his extraction is in two days... that said, I do realize everything is connected !

1) Max broke a premolar on ~ 10.26.19 after gnawing on a new type of bully stick.
He’ll be having the extraction THIS Thursday, 11.14.19.

Isn’t there a homeopathic protocol for:
1) “The cut of the surgeon’s knife”… i.e,. Staphysagria?
2) Anesthesia
3) Best remedy for post-extraction pain
(I am in favor of Hypericum as I always use this remedy after any dental procedures, myself).

What is the best way of preparation of the remedy to give to the vet?
(Yes! the vet will administer the remedies right after the extraction).
=======================================================

2) Sore spots he keeps getting on his legs… it’s not from licking… he only licks AFTER he gets these sore spots. Currently he has to constantly wear the “cone of shame”… as it seems when one clears up, another pops up . . . This has been happening over the last several months.
========================================================

3) Heart murmur, possibly “high grade 2”. Diagnosed 11.7.19
An echocardiogram may possibly be in scheduled in the near future.
========================================================

4) Possibly hypothyroidism (per lab results from Jean Dodds/Hemopet), though, clinically, to look at him, he does not have the classic outward signs of this condition and his thyroid values have been slowly rising.
=========================================================

Thanks !

Hi Ginny and welcome to the forum.

The night before the dental give Max the highest potency Arnica you have available (my private clients all have and use 10M).

Prepare it by adding 1 pellet to 1 cup of water and dip a Q-Tip into the solution.

Touch the QT to his gums. That's it!

Save the cup you made for after he returns.

Send the Arnica pellets for your vet to give right after the dental (1 pellet between lip and gum on the opposite side of the extraction). It will help with both the effects of surgery as well as those of the dental.

When he gets home, succuss the original cup 10x and give another QT dose.

Repeat this as often as needed based on any signs of restlessness, discomfort, decreased BEAM, etc.

Here's the dosing protocol relating to Arnica and injury:

If he's not 100% by Fri, please repeat this protocol.

His body will tell us via symptoms both when to dose and whether other homeopathic medicines are needed.

I will address your other questions as soon as I take another break from writing the cancer ebook.

Have a great evening!?

Hi Dr. Jeff... Thanks very much for this information! FYI I only have Arnica 30C on hand.

Hi Dr. Jeff... Thanks very much for this information! FYI I only have Arnica 30C on hand.

Dr. Jeff, here is a PS . . . On the morning of the extraction, Max is also having an abdominal Ultrasound (right before the extraction). Max is only comfortable with being handled (i.e., picked up, blood draws, etc.) as long as there are treats at the ready. Obviously we can't give treats before the extraction, so the vet wants me to give him Trazodone - 2 each 100 mg - 12 hours before the U/S and again 2 hours before the U/S. To state the obvious, I am concerned about side effects. Your thoughts? Thanks !

Hi Ginny.

Arnica 30c is fine to use.

Have you ever given Max Trazodone before?

Here's what specialist Wendy Brooks says about Trazodone:

Some experts recommend using a lower dose of trazodone for a few days to acclimate the patient and help avoid side effects.

The most serious potential side effect of trazodone is serotonin syndrome, which is a reaction that occurs when brain levels of serotonin get too high. Elevated heart rate, tremors/shivering, dilated pupils, difficulty breathing, elevated body temperature, or high blood pressure can all be signs of serotonin syndrome. Cyproheptadine acts by reducing brain serotonin levels and can be used to reverse it. Serotonin syndrome is an unlikely effect of trazodone, but it becomes more likely when trazodone is combined with other serotonin-enhancing drugs, so it is important to be able to recognize it.

Have you ever tried Rescue Remedy?

BTW-Can they do an echocardiogram to evaluate the heart murmur when they do the abdominal ultrasound?

Hi Dr. Jeff,

Thank you for your reply!
Max has never received Trazodone. The only thing that might be "good" about giving him Trazodone for the abdominal ultrasound, is that he will have much less anesthesia during the dental procedure, that will immediately follow the U/S.

I do have plenty of Rescue Remedy on hand, but I've never given it to him. Shall I mix say, 4 drops in some water and give him . . . how much? Or is there a better dosing protocol?

Thank you, again!
Ginny

You're welcome Ginny. ?

You can give it straight from the bottle, dilute in water (4 drops is fine in any amount of water), sprayed or massaged on, etc.

It works with any method of administration that works for you.

@Dr. Christina may have other suggestions for you.

Hi Dr. Jeff... Thanks, much.
Now that I think about it, after reading your reply, with past dogs I've put the RR on their pads! I'll update after the procedures on Thursday.

When you say Dr. Christina may have other suggestions, do you mean for the U/S and extraction?

Hi Dr. Jeff... Thanks, Max got through the extraction(s)... turned out that the broken tooth was a baby tooth that never came out... AND the vet found one that was "rotten" (a second molar on the left). "All other teeth look like that of a 2-3 year old." The abdominal ultrasound showed all is good, with the exception of mild/moderate enlarged prostate -- She said that that is because Max is an "older" intact male, 6.5 years young. So now I'd like to turn my attention to the very surprising news of the grade 2/3 heart murmur. I look forward to your thoughts. Thanks, again!

Good news!
I guess Max recovered well. do let us know.
Have you listened to the course on the heart?

The very best would be to begin at home with some dog pranyama!. You are already doing a lot of what is needed for Max - diet, etc.

Next, you may want to begin working with a veterinary homeopath now before there are any more heart changes.

Dr. Christina
PS - Dr. Jeff was saying I may have some more flower essence suggestions. Maybe you can also make a concerted effort (and flower essences can help with emotional issues) to have Max love being handled without food treats.

Maybe clicker, or Tellington T-Touch, or just give the treats less frequently and use praise instead. Jennifer Bridwell may have some more training suggestions.

Great news about Max, Ginny!

You should be able to reduce the need for further pain meds with frequent Arnica Dosing.

For repeated dosing, Hahnemann recommends medicating a cup of water with the remedy and changing the potency slightly prior to each dose.

Redose based on worsening of BEAM to conserve his cellular energy and speed his healing.

Thank you, Dr. Christina! Max does seem to be back to himself. His appetite is over the top, as usual. His "ever-at-the-ready" energy is back.

Here are my questions please! . . .

1) Where do I find the course on the heart? Here's one thought I have: It seems to me that the one rotten tooth and the presumed associated pathogens may have been a factor in the development of the grade 2-3 heart murmur? What do you think? I have no idea how long it takes for a tooth to become rotten. At the end of last July for his annual exam, there was no heart murmur. Three and 1/2 months later, there it is... ;(

2) Where do I learn about dog pranyama?!

3) Isn't my membership here considered working with a veterinary homeopath?

4) What Flower Essences would you suggest? (FYI, He is getting very few treats now since the extraction, since they mostly they are dehydrated and too hard.)

5) I read that the healing from the extractions takes about a month, is that right? He gets whole prey meals (rabbit and guinea pig) about 6 of 14 meals per week and I don't want to start whole prey again too early. The rest of the meals are ground whole prey.

6) Is it best to do a search for Jennifer Bridwell?

Thank you, again.

Hi Ginny-

1. The heart resources and webinar course can be found in your member area resources (where it lists all of the topics).

And you can click this link after logging in:

2. You can search the forum for pranayama resources

3. Yes and no. As you know, we do work closely with members but HA! is not designed for us to treat your pets 1:1. It's meant to teach you how to prevent and manage dis-eases along with your 1:1 vet.

In other words, we give you the tools to individualize and help you do so, but don't do it for you.

4. Rescue Remedy and homeopathic Arnica.

5. With frequent Arnica dosing I tend to see healing go much faster (7-10 days).

6. You can find Jen and some of her resources here on the forum (do a search) and as the presenter for some training Empower Hours!

Thanks for asking Ginny. ?
