Bobby loves other dogs and wants to meet them ALL. Most of the time, it's pretty uneventful (typical sniffing, he's always a little excited and might be a little too eager with the sniffing, but he typically maintains composure. Will usually shy away from over-exuberant dogs.). Twice his hackles...
Bobby has never been a big fan of plain water unless he's just come in from a brisk walk (more or less depending on the outside temperature), just had a cheek or collagen chew stick, I've added something tasty to the water, or I'm holding the bowl for him (which is a drag). I check his scruff...
@LilF - Yeah, I normally don't buy food or anything health related from Amazon, but I was desperate for a particular brand/type of CBD chew that seemed to really keep Bobby mellow during his surgery recovery and I mistakenly thought that the supplier listed on Amazon was the official Super...
I'm not a vet, and I'm still pretty new to this forum, but my dog Bobby (1.5yo GSD mix) doesn't do well on Simparica Trio. He took it for four months and the last two months the side effects were enough to stop giving it to him (mostly diarrhea, lethargy. And I wonder if his inflamed outer ears...
@Dr. Sue - Thanks for your input! Apparently the physical therapy place has land exercises they can do with Bobby instead of using the tank, so I'll request those instead, just to be safe.
@Dr. Jeff & @tsharlo1 : Thanks to both of you for your advice! We don't have A/C or ceiling fans (and we rent, so it has to stay that way), but I've made notes of everything else. Thanks so much!
@GinnyW - Great advice! We've only had Bobby 6 months, so he's still pretty much of a clean slate at this point and has been eating quite a variety of foods as we find out which direction we're going (so I guess I'll keep going in the high variety direction! :D) I like the varying portion size...
I'm trying to transition Bobby to a more cooling diet (advice welcome, because I'm new to cooling/warming diets in general so I'm sure there's much I don't know yet), but I also want to try to modify his sleeping arrangements in the meantime so he doesn't get so warm in the spring/summer when...
Hi @Dr. Sara , That's a relief to know. Then he must've gotten it before we adopted him, because he's never chomped on anything harder than a beef collagen or beef cheek chew since he's been with us. The antlers kinda scare me just for that reason. Thanks so much for your input!
@Dr. Jeff
Thanks for the response! I love the idea of a varied diet, mostly because I love shopping for Bobby, and, in this case, you never know when you're going to stumble on a good deal. :D I used to protein switch every couple days with his frozen fresh cooked Ollie, and Bobby responded...
The local pet store I go to has a bunch of Nature's Logic Lightly Cooked dog food that a customer ordered and then ended up not wanting. She's going to discount them, so it might be a good money saving opportunity for me, but I've never used the product. Any opinions as to whether to give it a...
Bobby does physical therapy once a week (for a wedge osteotomy back in October 2021) and part of his rehab is walking in a water tank (3 min, 5 min, and today was 7 min). He comes home smelling of chlorine (and wet dog). Should I be trying to rinse off the tank water (or in Bobby's case, give...
Thanks for the reassurance, @Dr. Jeff ! You can imagine how bad I felt when it happened--assuming it was the fur rake that did it. My gut thinks it was. :( Better to learn a lesson without any major damage though, right? Note to self: beware of Bobby mouthing when raking fur. :)
@Dr. Jeff, @Dr. Christina I was raking Bobby's neck fur, and he went to playfully mouth my hand, and the metal fur rake hit his tooth and may have chipped the tip of one of his canines (or the chip was already there, and I just never noticed). It's a tiny chip, but it might be sensitive (he...
@Dr. Christina
Thanks so much for the information. The more I know, the less worried I feel. It's hard to assess what nature is trying to tell me, since I'm stressed pretty much near constantly (I'm working on it, but caregiving for my mother has really messed me up). I like the suggestion...

(New member/new dog caregiver here, so bear with. Also not totally forum savvy, so feel free to share any pro tips. :D)
Pet Info: Bobby, ~1.5yo (adopted in 8/21), M/Neutered, GSD Mix (waiting to hear back from Embark DNA for more info), 66 lbs, BEAM...
