When to do a Heartworm Test

Stopped giving them heart worm meds. Do i do a microfileria test every 3 months and treat with sentinal if the test is ever positive? We are doing the heart-worm test twice a year, but what do i do if heart-worm test is ever positive, do we use the western medicine for that?
