Marisa and Dog Allergies

V

Vizsla3

Hi my name is Marisa and I have 3 Vizsla’s. My 2 year old is very itchy and she has quite a bit of yeast in her ears. They get fed a raw diet. Any suggestions on homeopathic remedies or holistic actions to help her? Also any suggestions on keeping the ears clean?

Welcome Marissa!

Thanks for introducing yourself.

Let's start a new thread here: Medical Dis-ease Challenges
specifically about the symptoms of your itchy dog.

Please write them out in detail so we can interpret them in context to figure out what you can do.

Please also include the symptom timeline, what you already are doing, and whether you work with a holistic vet or homeopath.

Thanks!

Hi Dr. Jeff
Jazz is the allergy dog. 2 years old.
Jazz has been scratching her body for over 6 months now. She scratches the most during the night. She scratches around her neck and shoulders and face. During the day she rubs her back on our indoor outdoor carpet. I was feeding her a raw diet of chicken and beef. I switched to honest kitchen fish base food. It seemed to help for a little bit, but started up again a month later. 2 weeks ago I took her to the vet (unfortunately where I live there are no holistic nor homeopathic vets) if you know of any near Vero Beach Florida I would love to know. So my local vet checked her skin to make sure there was nothing else going on topically. All clear there. She said that Jazz had a lot of yeast in her ear and prescribed her Otomax (2x a day for 2 weeks). Her ears seem clear now And her scratching is better but my gut tells me I need to get to the root of the problem not just bandaid it. Right now she is eating honest kitchen fish base food. She had her 3 year Rabbies shot a year ago and has not had any other shot in a year and a half. I normally do not vaccinate my dogs other than Rabbies, but in order to take them to a training class or boarding they require bortedella and distemper. She got those once a year and a half ago.
I hope this is enough info. If you need more let me know. Thank you.

Thanks for the great info Marissa-

I'm sorry to hear about Jazz's health challenges at such a young age, but I'm sure that her body can stop symptoms and recover balance.

How itchy is she on the 1 to 10 scale?

A pup with 0-1 itch level is considered to be a "normal", non-itchy, dog.

Whereas someone who is a 10/10 is up all night licking, can't walk without scratching/chewing/licking and is often covered with skin sores.

The best news is that in the overall context of health, it's much better for Jazz to have itching and skin symptoms rather than internal problems.

My first thought in a young itchy dog is about vaccinosis.

Itching, like behavior and other dis-eases are often secondary to any vaccination, especially for pups under 14 weeks of age and from the legally required rabies.

Itching worse at night is associated with a group of homeopathic medicines that can both cause (and cure) Jazz's allergy symptoms.

As an example of how this works, Mike, one of my yoga instructors, gave a great illustration.

It was a method of bending forward and making your sinuses stuffy in order to relieve stuffy sinuses.

Mike said that when you stand back up, your sinuses drain and you can breath freely again.

Anyway, back to Jazz!

It's really OK that there is no nearby holistic vet as all you really need is someone who is open-minded.

Any vet is only there to add to your Holistic Medical Decision Making Step 2 Research.

We're awesome sources of information, but ultimately you need to deide what to do for Jazz.

As Mike also says, you are the guru and captain of Jazz's health care team.

Pet professionals, vets, other healers, breeders, etc. are only guides (and information sources).

Regarding how to help your young pup permanently get over her allergies and ear problems?

You can do this by raising her allergic threshold by optimizing her immune balance.

Concentrate on treating her BEAM symptoms and building and preserving her vitality to improve her immune balance.

You can build it by fresh food feeding, optimizing mental and physical stimulation, social engagement, love, massage, fresh air, sunshine, etc.

You preserve it by avoiding toxins like those in vaccines, stressors like surgery and other things that work against her body ("antis").

We can talk and chat about this during a Monday Empower Hour! webinar.

Thanks for describing what licking/scratching/chewing behaviors look like on the 1-10 scale.

Thank you Dr. Jeff. Her itching is about a 7 on a scale of 1-10. No skin irritations.
What time is Monday’s empower hour webinar?

Is there a homeopathic remedy you recommend if the yeast comes back in her ears. And also do you recommend cleaning the ears with a solution? If so, which solution do you recommend?

Hi again Marisa.

Use green tea for wiping out her ears.

Make it up by steeping up a cup, letting it cool, then using it on a tissue to wipe out her ears.

Sweet almond oil is great to use in addition if her ears get irritated and itchy.

Her ear symptoms are one part of her individuality, so a specific remedy directed just at her ears would not treat the underlying imbalance.

The remedies chosen are based on a full evaluation of her history, prior treatments, other symptoms, etc.

Thank you Dr. Jeff. For more a specific diagnosis should I schedule a phone consult with you. Or do you do specific diagnosis on this site? I live in Florida so I can’t come in person.

Hi Marisa. For specific homeopathic diagnosis (which is diagnosis of the needed homeopathic medicines based on totality) I am indeed helping HA! students on an individual basis.

For conventional diagnosis I'd advise a local Board Certified specialist in FL.

You can find the new client questionnaire on this page.
