Trooper: 6 months (estimated), Male/Neutered, Lab/Pit Mix, 39#
Special Note: Had been an neglect case, picked up by Animal Control, owner unknown.
Condition at intake 11/15/23: Emaciated, 15#, ulcers over body, under socialized, crated.
Shelter had him until ready for adoption. Shelter veterinarian as well as local collage veterinary technician program with other veterinarian supervision defined care team.
BEAM (behavior, energy, appetite, mood):
-Happy, excited, ravenous appetite with intake requiring measures to slow the process.
-Socializing in process, doing very well.
DIET:
-Had been eating what shelter had building slowly up to twice daily feedings.
-Diamond Natural Puppy Lamb and Rice currently.
VACCINE HISTORY, exposure to toxins, other medications:
-No details of history pre shelter care.
-Has had routine puppy vaccines with shelter and post adoption at first vet visit.
-4DX 1/24/24 N/N/N/N
-Credelio and Interceptor Plus monthly going forward.
-Had internal parasite load and finished with three days Panacea 1/27, 28, and 29 causing GI upset and loose stools.
-Canned food (1 T same brand and protein source as dry kibble) used in KONG seems to trigger gas as well; discontinued.
PRIMARY PROBLEM, when it began and if there was anything else happening around that time:
-1/25/24: Onset of left rear leg lameness, non weight bearing to full use.
-No known incidence to cause injury, does not mind touch or massage.
-Curious of growth plate discomfort with history, malnutrition, and all the changes occurring so quickly for Trooper.
IS THE CONDITION better or worse from exercise, heat, cold, time of day, certain foods, emotional upset, being touched, excitement, etc?
-He will be slow to get out of his cozy, warm bed and once warmed up with a stretch, onward he goes.
HAS ANY DIAGNOSTIC work been done?
Diagnosis if available (you can attach your diagnostic tests to the post if you have them):
-Aside from first vet visit post adoption, no further diagnostics performed.
-Symptoms were not noted until after that exam.
-Exam was very good, and a good report given.
CURRENT and previous treatment:
-As noted above, finished PANACUR and resuming normal bowel movements.
-Finding appropriate chew toys has been tricky as he is an aggressive chewer.
-Rope toys create shreds of thread in feces.
OTHER health concerns:
-Monitoring the intermittent lameness with leash walking is helping to control some of his high energy activity.
