I didnt know what group to start this thread, but here goes.

Cooper (7mo Shichon) has small bleeding from his tail. Seeing it a few times. He keeps trying to lick or do something with his tail. Not clear if he was bit there and he aggravates it or some bruise that aggravates him and he licks it opening the wound. It is from the tip. His BEAM is normal. Any ideas?

Happy 4th Mike!

This looks like just a bit of bleeding and in the context of a normal BEAM, and as long as there is no dripping blood, you can have a quiet and relaxing day without rushing to the ER.

He may have a little cut on the tip of his tail or have chewed a little sore.

Was there any injury (like getting his tail caught somewhere) that you saw?

Tails tend to bleed a lot.

If it's not oozing (no new blood spots in his beautiful white hair) then perhaps leave it be.

If it seems to be really bothering him, there's a homeopathic medicine called Hypericum that you can learn more about.

Dr. Trish can clip and examine his tail tip closer tomorrow or Tuesday.

Helpful feedback @Dr. Jeff . There doesnt seem any bleeding now. We saw it a couple days ago too. Will be good to have it checked out with Dr Trish. Thanks

So we took Cooper to the vet. Not Dr Trish as we have finally got into Roxbury Animal Hospital (after a 5mo wait), which is 5min from our house (vs. Aspetuck Hospital, which is much further away and we were with Dr Trish). We moved to Roxbury Hospital because we got very good reviews from many people including our very good dog trainer @jsqueglia.

We were seen by Dr Devon Gilliam, a new Vet at the clinic. His regular Dr is expected to be Dr Chanin Miller.

Cooper does have a cut on the tip of his tail (we suspect he may got it either from rose bush thorns) that he is aggravating by biting into it. They put an ointment Animax Ointment and asked to put it for the next days on the bruise. They also said its inflammed and gave him one dose of anti-inflammant Metacam Oral. Also asked to give him +4 doses for next 4-days. Cooper also has a cone :-(. They didnt have an inflatable collar that is much better for him and can still prevent him from getting to his tail (we will look for that).

We prefer to give him homeopathy vs. Metacam. Is it still Hypericum 30? Anything else? Frequency? Any other advice? Thanks

Calendula is most effective on broken skin, so not so much for bruising. Arnica is always the go-to for bruising, internal or external - sometimes in alternation with whatever else is needed, as from a fall, or a bruise with broken skin from knocking into something. Hypericum is strongly suited to nerve endings:) tail, toes, teeth, fingers, ears, etc.
