Sherlock thyroid

Sherlock is a 10 year old neutered male. His current bloodwork was good except T4 was 0.8 and his free T4 was 7.2. I misspoke last night because I didn’t have that in front of me. I’m surprised nothing was said about cholesterol or Amylase?

Dear Judy,
A low amylase is of no significance. In fact, internal medicine specialists don't see any point in amylase and lipase in animals, as the values can be all over the place with no significance. A pancreatic specific lipase IS significant, if elevated.
The major cause of a fasting (I assume these are fasting labs?) high cholesterol level in dogs is hypothyroidism. The other main cause of hypercholesterolemia is protein losing nephropathy, and ideally every senior dog should have a first morning urine run as part of their annual lab work.
I note the increased eosinophil numbers. Is Sherlock having an allergic response to something, in addition to the hypothyroidism?

Sherlock's thyroid results are in the range where Dr. Dodds would advise starting thyroid hormone supplementation.

Have you seen any recent BEAM or other) changes with him?

Either way, I'd suggest starting to treat him homeopathically in addition to extra energy-building techniques.

And you know the Bengston method so definitely start using that right away.

I don’t think he is having any allergic response

Now this poor boy can’t walk and is so lethargic. Tested positive for Lyme with severe symptoms.
