Probiotics While Taking Antibiotics

My understanding is that taking most probiotics during anitibiotic therapy is not effective because the antibiotics will basically kill the probiotics. However, the probiotic S. Boulardii is a yeast and will not be harmed by antibiotics. I have read several articles saying it is extremely effective while taking antibiotics to keep the gut microbiome healthy. In fact, my sister took antibiotics recently and took S. Boulardii during treatment and she had no ill effects from the antibiotics and she normally does.

Anyone have experience regarding this?

Yes, I would definitely use the probiotic now. And after the anti-biotics continue to rotate the probiotics between the S. boulardii, The Wolf, Fido's Flora, Visbiome, etc.

Thanks Dr. Jeff.

My dogs are not on antibiotics currently. I was simply wanting to have a probiotic on hand that is effective while on antibiotics should they ever need an antibiotic. I have read that S. Boulardii is effective to take during antibiotics to prevent gut issues and just wondering if anyone has experience with it.

I have actually never given my dogs probiotics in their entire lives and they are 16 and almost 16. Both have iron guts so I figure it if is not broke, why fix it.
