@Dr. Jean Hofve @Dr. Jeff @Dr. ChristinaGlad Punk is feeling sparkier!
To answer your question though, fenbendazole has been able to kill some types of cancer cells in petri dishes, but that rarely translates to real life. There is no evidence that it is useful for cancer in pets.
The anti-parasitic dose (50-100 mg/kg) might kill a few surface cancer cells along the intestinal wall, if it could even penetrate the mucus barrier. Deworming formulations aren't supposed to be absorbed, they're supposed to stay in the GI tract and directly poison the parasites (worms and flukes) sitting there.
Because it is given by mouth, it would have to reach the cancer through the bloodstream, but it is poorly bioavailable. (It can have adverse effects if it *is* absorbed, but the deworming dose is quite safe.)
From what I can determine, the risk of toxicity is much greater than any possible benefit.

@Dr. Jean Hofve I never had the time to research this guy, but I'm always somewhat skeptical...Also, thanks for your kind words. You're so right about the selling aspect. This is a great example.
Dr. Andrew Jones is very well known. He was a practicing veterinarian in Canada. He was repeatedly warned and fined by the Veterinary Board for making claims prohibited by professional ethics, and other violations. He ultimately surrendered his veterinary license so he could continue selling his books and products without accountability.
Tippens used many products over time, not just fenbendazole. The ones described may only be the last few in a long series, we don't really know.
When I work with clients, I encourage them to do one thing at a time--so that we know what's working. True, we don't always have time for that, so a shotgun approach may be warranted. But we don't know what was really going on in a case like that.
At the risk of belaboring this post, let me tell you a little story. As a feline vet I dealt with innumerable cases of bladder inflammation (FLUTD by any other name). I tried so many things! Every time I found *the* combination that worked perfectly on one cat, it didn't work at all on the next cat. It was so frustrating, but completely understandable.
Every cat, every dis-ease, every condition, is individual. Genetics, epigenetics, history, diet, social factors, environment, personality--everything we consider when taking a homeopathic case--influences the symptom picture we see at any moment. That's why homeopathy is so individualized. And why one protocol is unlikely to work across the board.
Hope is a wonderful and a dangerous thing. Unfortunately, Punk's disease was very advanced and there wasn't time to reverse it, if indeed it was possible. He was on his own life path, and sometimes we don't have as much input on that as we like to think.
Second-guessing yourself can't do anything but create doubt and regret, which have no value for anyone.
You gave Punk a wonderful life full of love, and a peaceful release. Be gentle with yourself. Enjoy your memories of a kitty life well lived. Ya done good, dear Lisa.
@ElissaB, Doing OK, thanks. We are away now, and the only reason we are, is because we don't have to take care of Punk, so it's just sad, but been down this road before. I'll give myself some time and then probably just rescue another one...How is Bach doing? How are you doing, @LisaArk ? Holidays are especially tough while grieving.
Lisa, you did great by him, and learned a heap along the path. He will always be with you, and everything he taught will live on to help others. Thank you, and Punk thanks you, for alll you did and learned. All our love!
@GinnyW Thanks for your lovely, supportive words, very appreciated.Lisa, you did great by him, and learned a heap along the path. He will always be with you, and everything he taught will live on to help others. Thank you, and Punk thanks you, for alll you did and learned. All our love!
"What a balancing act", you said. And this is so true. Heart and mind are part of the balancing act. There are no right answers, no miracle cures, though miracles happen all the time with almost every approach. Great to collect information, then step back and really trust your heart and intuition. Is the fenbendazole treatment coming from your mind and "I want to try everything" or does it "feel" right in your heart and intuition?
Quality of life is our key at any point, even if the good times are short each day. You may want to schedule a call with Gail Pope and read her thoughts on the page, too, as she had hundreds of cats in just the place you are at.
Usually energetic treatments help maintain quality of life the longest, even if the tissue damage is not repaired, and sometimes even repairs the damage.
