This probably happened within the last month, but apparently since Chief’s an aggressive chewer, he chipped a good portion of his tooth off. I feel like the root looks exposed. Should I bring him to a dentist? I just don't want it removed ?

Now that you have seen it, quantified it, recorded it with pictures, you next evaluate the BEAM.
Is he eating well? Does he seem to favor his mouth? Is he pawing at his mouth? How about energy, behavior (nervous to start eating or digs right in), mood?

If all of them are ok, you can watch the gums and his BEAM and may need to do nothing more.

Have you assembled your holistic health care team? Is there already a holistic vet (TCVM, homeopath, osteopath or chiropractor) on the team? If yes, contact them for their opinion - remember all have different opinions, so be the advocate and make your own decision. If no, it is now time to create your pup's team!!

He is eating well. He jumps right into food. Still having a small amount of hookworms present in his stool, so we are addressing that with panacure. He should be hookworm free after this amount. Chief is very anxious when dad is not around, and tends to even be anxious sometimes when we are all home. He does not have a team, and definitely needs one! He does not paw at his mouth. One day he yelped when chewing the benebone, and that could have been the day this happened. Yes I want to address the underlying issue, but do you think they will have to remove the tooth?

Since he is doing well overall, try to create your support team - no rush unless there is some evidence of pain, IMHO. I have had patients with broken teeth who never needed any dental work.

Certainly keep trying holistic and conventional treatments and lifestyles until he is 100% in BEAM and has no early warning signs. Have you read the Fundamentals? They will help you find a team and find many approaches to build health, vitality and balance.

In addition to the Panacure, I would suggest a month of the Flower Essence Para-Outta-Site (jackson galaxy solutions).

Thank you for the info!! I will look into the Para outta site! His energy is great, it's just seeing that tooth is looks like it's going to be a problem. I made an appt with a dental specialist, do you think I should just leave it? I really don't want it to rott

There is never harm in getting more information. Just be prepared when you go to any professional (veterinarian or otherwise) to make up your own mind and ask plenty of questions. Always good to have a friend along who is not as emotionally attached.
