Extremely low blood cells and badly anemic doggie

My sweet mini doxie was showing signs of weakness last weekend. We took her to the vet Monday. We were rushed to the emergency vet Monday per her vets recommendation for a blood transfusion. She received it Monday night and was sent home Tuesday night. She was diagnosed with Pancytopenia due to they think that her bone marrow isn’t creating baby red blood cells. She is on prednisone and they want us to check her levels again tomorrow. She is still weak and out of it. They made it sound like her percentage was so low she was on dearth’s door. She’s eating and drinking. Can walk and stand (a little wobbly) her spirits seem high but I can tell she’s fighting hard to survive. We had a animal intuitive give her a heading season last night. Any advice at all would be appreciated with open arms. She is our baby and loved by so many. Thank you so much C6ACA63E-547B-4964-8815-3EEB62A9D292.jpeg

Hi Aya. Welcome to HA! and thanks for posting about your pup.

I'm so sorry to hear about her recent health challenges. :(

If you have the vet records and blood test results, it would be wonderful if you upload it to this thread.

What do you feed her?

It would also be great to have more info like: her past history, vaccinations (especially if any were done in the past few months) prior or current other health challenges, and any BEAM (behavior energy, appetite, mood) or other symptom changes that you saw prior to going to the vet, etc.

Have you consulted a vet specialist to be on her team? They'd know about any new diagnostic or treatment options.

It would also be helpful for her quality of life and healing if you start the TOP (terrain optimizing protocol) today.

Thank you so much for your reply!

Diet- lots of fresh veggies like cucumber, carrots, sugar snap peas, (all organic non gmo) she also eats a raw meat dog food, we have tried a few different brands.

I don't vaccinate her but she was a rescue, I found her when she was 3 yr old so not sure what she had prior to that. She is now 7

TOP-She had horrible anxiety when I found her when I would leave the house so I quit my job and found a new one as a nanny so she could come with me to work everyday to play and nap with the kids I watch.
I've stayed home all week since she's shown signs of being sick. We live in the country with lots of beautiful trails, she is a lap dog that also gets lots of outside time with us in nature

I don't have her records but I have attached her discharge papers from Tuesday that have some more info as far as recent testing. I can add more info once her vet is back open after the holiday.

Prior to vet visit she started becoming weak, her walk almost looked like she was a little drunk. didn't want to eat anything crunchy, wasn't eating as much of her raw food. very lethargic and out of it. she did show some very slight signs of not eating as much for a short time right around thanksgiving, but it coincided with me being out of town for a few days with her left at home her dad and this unfortunately is common behavior when I have to leave her (regardless of who I leave her with) so when I got back and she seemed back to her self we chalked it up to how she gets when I have to travel

I really didn't want to take her to the emergency vet but I was scared. in a matter of a few days she went from playing to barely moving. I know the steroids are not the way to go but I don't know what holistic path was best instead/I'm still unsure what's really going on with her

Thank you!

I will add to this the pathology came back negative for cancer. IMG-2121.jpg

Hi again Aya. Great news about her diet and vaccinations (or lack thereof).

Are you working with an internal medicine specialist or a holistic vet?

How is her terrain optimizing going?

Hello Dr Jeff!

So the internal med specialist is the Dr that worked with her at the hospital, those are her notes in my attachment above

We do have an update....... Her red blood cells were tested yesterday (Saturday) and were at 30%. (up from 26% upon her discharge on last Wednesday) They want us to bring her back this Wednesday morning to check her white blood cells and platelets

Her TOP isn't back to completely normal due to her weakness. She's not feeling up to walks yet. But my partner and I have been practicing very positive thinking and speech to her. I had the animal intuitive do another healing session with her and she seemed sooooooo much better after. We have been adding some beef liver mixed with sweet potato every couple days to hopefully help with her anemia. She gets lots of cuddles and love all day. I took two weeks off work to help mend her and stay home with her. She's also getting healing flower essence in her water and placed lovingly in her auric field made specifically for her by the healer we are working with. She does go out in the garden with me for about 20min or so to lay in the sun and wonder around our garden to smell all the smells

We are researching trying to find a holistic vet in our area but so far not great luck. I do have a call scheduled with you tomorrow at 1pm pst. Very happy to find this community and really feeling hopefully to learn what I can do to help Pu heal
thank you!
Aya

Fantastic news that her blood count is continuing to increase!:snowman:

I'm also grateful that you found HA! and am glad to hear that you're working with an internist and are looking for a holistic vet.

Everything you are doing is fantastic, and should help gradually improve her BEAM and quality of life very soon. She'll be back to her walks before you know it.

We'll talk or video chat tomorrow!

also I read on one of the threads about magnesium oil. Do you think I should try that for Pu? Thanks

Yes, the magnesium oil could be useful to increase energy and healing.

Dr. Melissa said she loves the vet you found! Dr. Christina is researching if there's any closer open-minded vets (who may not be trained in a holistic modality as Paw Chi is).
