Hi, looking for help with our budgie. She has, of recent, lost her siblings Plus we believe she has lice - or something the like.
We are considering moving her to a new cage and totally clean the one she is in; We are also wanting to purchase a product to eliminate what ever - mites, lice or other - is causing the problem.
The problem here is that she shies away from the hand and we do not wish to stress her anymore than is needed. Any suggestions please.

Yes! Great idea.

Did you try any of the suggestions we discussed a few weeks ago?

Hi Dr Jeff,
Have ordered a solution, however feeling reluctant to put those toxins on the bird if there is possibly a natural solution. Was hoping that by giving her a clean cage the cycle would naturally end. Well, did some research and that now seems like a dream rather than reality.
Guessing there is no gentle means of eradicating the nasties?
In the end it's either the parasites or the toxic spray - right?
Guess I am struggling with the situation at hand 😦

Which?

Light application of mineral oil is effective at smothering any mites.

Also, maybe try getting the cage outside in the sun.

Also, have you suggested to them that they leave?

'Which?'
Astropet mite lice spray
Would it be safe for the budgie to ingest the mineral oil? - she does 'groom' herself quite a lot.

Dr Jeff

Yes, as long as the application is not too heavy.

I'm not so sure about ingestion of the

Aristopet Bird Mite and Lice Spray however.
