I thought about it but I am getting nervous with giving her raw bones. Cutting the meat off an entire chicken is a lot of work if I use the bones for broth only to freeze for the cat, and I will get one chicken neck only. We do not eat chicken unfortunately.
Hello Everyone. I am having a hard time sourcing fresh chicken necks for my cat. I am afraid to buy them online in bulk frozen and not be able to defrost them one at a time. If using them, where do you get them? How many of them is your cat eating per day or week? The butcher at my local grocery...
Thank you! Mind you, in the meantime I bought another type of boneless fresh fish (tilapia), it smells nothing and Florence does not like it. It seems it has to be salmon only. She is becoming pickier than my human children :-( I do not eat fish myself anymore so it is such a waste.
As I move along my new raw feeding adventure with my cat, being careful with bones that could split, I am also wondering if bones in fish could be an issue. I am thinking of buying salmon pieces as a treat from time to time but I wonder if I have to carefully inspect it for long bones and remove...
Thank you. It happened again the next day, but the tree was still up. Now the tree is gone and Florence had a regular day yesterday, her appetite is back and she kept food inside. I am glad the tree is now gone. She is looking for new ways to get our attention or to make her point now... :-)
I am jumping in as Florence my 6yo cat has been vomiting her food last night (full of fake tree particles) and all her meal this morning right after ingesting it (raw shredded salmon and cooked pumpkin and a bit of cilantro. She is eating the fake Xmas tree we put in (I think I am down with the...
I agree, the wing bones did splinter so I stopped giving them. The drumstick bones, my small cat only gets the meat around it then eats the cartilage and skin at one end and chews a bit at the other end. I suspect she gets a bit of blood from the inside of the bone. I never noticed any splinters...
I have been giving my cat raw chicken drumsticks for a month and a half every few days. They come from the store. I have that fear of chocking on bones so I did what I have done for my kids when they were little, I removed the POINTY very thin bone attached to the main bone (fibula). Is that...
Thank you. Behavior wise, while on kibbles and HK and then when fed 100% HK, Florence came for feeding, asked for food but only asked for extra when we had gotten mixed up in the dosage and did not meet her caloric ration. Then she would leave the kitchen. Now after introducing raw meet, she...
Dr Jeff, could you point me towards more info about this? Florence will have her first appointment next week with Dr Christina, maybe this is something we could discuss. Thank you.
Thank you for the clarification. I have an organic kelp mix I use for human consumption but I could share with my cat. I will check your recommendation and try to find out the dosage. Chicken hearts, she loves them, it is like a treat, she gets them at least every second week, between 3 and 6...
Thank you Dr. Jeff. Is there a guideline about how much weight of food is required based on the weight of the furry individual? That would give me a good start to see where I stand. If yes, is that rule the same for dogs and cats and also based on activity levels (indoor vs outdoor cat for...
As I am transitioning my 3.6 kg cat Florence from HK to raw food and homemade cooked food, I started with raw chicken from my grocery store to see. My cat Florence loves it. She can eat 2 drumsticks and chew on the extremities of the bones and eat the cartilage but even after two, in the evening...
I understand that if going raw for a cat, taurine must be added to be safe even if the cat is chewing on chicken drumstick bones and eating chicken wings bones. However, could anyone recommend a few trusted brand available in Canada and the dosage for cats. Is it based on weight?
I use for myself sovereign silver. I am wondering if it would be OK to put a drop in my cat's eye. I do not believe it will fix it as she has had a running eye since we got her 7 years ago :-(. But I am wondering if it would help downsize infections when the corner of her eye becomes very...
