Supplementing commercial raw diet?

From a reply to another message posted earlier this month, Dr. Jean Hofve said "Just to catch up, manganese *can* be hard to balance in a raw diet."

Could you please let me know if you would advise on adding a bit of manganese (water soluble mineral) supplement to my kitten's commercial raw food just to be safe there would be no deficiencies? If so, what would be the daily amount to add?

Would there be other supplements to add just to be safe?

Hi Joanne!

Dr. Jean is traveling so there may be a delay in her response.

If you are using a balance raw diet like Small Batch or Viva I don't usually supplement it (but maybe Dr. Jean does).

BTW-I also wonder what Dr. Jean thinks about this info:

A balanced commercial diet is just that, balanced, and doesn’t need supplemental vitamins or minerals. Adding single minerals in particular can be harmful, since many are toxic in excess, including manganese.
