Pooping issues

Some context first - Our Shichon puppy Cooper (7mo) finally pooped after a couple days. He didnt eat anything yesterday but now we are more sanguine about. He pooped this morning and then ate a boiled egg. So all good.

But after his first poop he tried to poop again…but he didnt poo and has tried a few times. He then also drags himself as if he is trying to clean his butt. He has done that in the past after poops. Note: he was groomed a couple days ago. Is the dragging his butt related to grooming? Is it related to having harder poo after couple days? Should we give him pumpkin sauce as a way to get softer bowels?

Sometimes after stool problems, the anal ducts can become plugged, so dragging his butt could be related to anals, or the grooming, or just general discomfort from the stool issues.

Several things to try for Cooper:
  • Put a few drops of rescue remedy in some very warm water and hot compress for about 10 minutes several times a day
  • Put some calendula lotion in water and hot pack.
  • Put both in hot water

PS - remember to record all this in his journal
