Hi @Dr. Jean Hofve,

I saw in the webinar chat today, that you mentioned it's important to add TAURINE to cats' (I have a five-month-old kitten) meals that mainly consist of rabbits. My kitten's favorite protein is rabbit and she's been on a few different rabbit blends (we have given her 80/10/10 rabbit blends, rabbit with pork, and rabbit with vegetables) since we got her when she was four weeks old. She does not like very much other types of proteins like beef, chicken, turkey...etc. (We're working with Dr. Jeff on that via homeopathy)...in the meantime, how much taurine should we add to her meal? She eats around 1.20-1.30oz of meat blends, at least three times per day. Thank you!

A 10-lb cat should get 80-100 mg of taurine per day, but a kitten can get the full amount with no harm, taurine is totally safe and can't be overdosed.

@Dr. Jean Hofve may i ask for the same question, as i shift between adding vitamin powder and some days only taurine.

The website I bought it from said that I should add 0.2 grams of taurine to 200 grams of pure meat.

What do you think about that?

Oh, that's a math question and I don't do math, lol!

She needs 80-100 mg of taurine amongst all the food she eats in a day. If she eats 3 ounces (85 gm) of food, then she needs 100 mg (0.1 gm) of taurine. If she eats 6 oz (170 gm) of food, she still needs 100 mg of taurine. It's per cat, not per amount of food.

@Dr. Jean Hofve

I don't know exactly how much food my two cats eat separately. I usually give them a total of 250 grams meat, which they both eat during the day.

Then use 200 gm taurine to be safe. You can't overdose it.

2 grams to 200 gram meat ?

Should both cats get the same amount of taurine?

I find it difficult to give something specific to only one of them because they eat from each other's food bowls.

That's why I followed the company's instructions when they said I should mix 0.2 grams of taurine to 200 grams of raw meat

add 0.2 grams of taurine to 200 grams of pure meat.

Based on what you wrote, and what Dr. Jean advised, Bettina 4x more than the amount of taurine you're using (.8 vs. .2) would be added to 200g of meat.
