Dog vomiting white foam

Hello everyone,

My 7 yo, 25 lb French bulldog, Mutsu, has been licking his lips regularly and being really restless for almost two yours, then maybe 30-60 minutes in he started vomiting white foam as well. He has vomited large and small piles, but many. He's a dog who often throws up his food without much fanfare so this continued restless is making me concerned. (He only lays down for a few minutes at a time before moving to a new spot.)

Before this happened my ex was playing with him in the yard with a stick (which is a regular occurrence, but it's been a while since there's been time for it so he was overly excited). He does chew sticks, but doesn't usually swallow anything. I did my best to check his mouth and didn't see anything.

Questions:
One,
I'm obviously monitoring him, but is there something I should or could give him? I have many homeopathy remedies, but have only used nux vomica for gi. Not sure this fits.
Two, how concerned should I be/does he need to go to the ED--perhaps maybe after x amount of time?

As I'm writing this he's gone the longest so far without vomiting.

Thanks,

July

Hey July!

I'm sorry to hear about Mutsu's nausea/vomiting.

Great point. Nux doesnt fit all vomiting or nauseous dogs. Especially if they are restless. Is he drinking/or looking for water? Has he had any stools?

Take him to the ER whenever you are concerned. And especially if there is a substantial drop in BEAM. Repeated vomiting despite no food or water can lead to dehydration. And if it continues, subcutaneous fluids at the vet can be helpful.

Hi @Dr. Jeff,

Thank you. He's so sensitive it's hard to see another struggle in his plate.

He has been drinking water and I've allowed it. No stool, but he normally goes twice in the am, which he did already.

His vomit has all been white foam and not a lot of fluid and he's drinking water so not too concerned with dehydration. I do have lactated ringers and needles if needed. Though admittedly I've only done subcutaneous fluids in a cat.

My ER concern was if something may be lodged, like a piece of stick, but he is mostly breathing okay (just started reverse sneezing five minutes ago). Internet searches say to withhold food. Seems like a good idea, but he struggles keeping weight on as it is I avoid fasting unless completely necessary.

What is white foam usually an indication of? Internet says GI upset. Anything else?

Thanks

Often, vomiting water.

You may want to remove access to water for now.

How's his BEAM?
