Hi all,
Looking for brand suggestions for a 10pd Havanese who's loosing her vision.
Thank you!

Sheri, what do you mean by a Halo?

Most dogs are fine with loss of their third most important sense (after sniffing and hearing).

Oh sorry. It's a brand actually that prevents the dogs from bumping into furniture, etc bc they are blind or close to it. Fibi is bumping into everything now. I thought you might know of a brand recommendation.

Ah, I see. I thought maybe you were referring to how angelic Fibi is!👼;)

I don't have any other brand recommendations, but maybe someone else...

Without a doubt she is!
So you don't know of any products that prevent dogs or even cats from bumping into things? I thought this would be a go-to tool...there are a lot of brands but it's overwhelming.

Nope.

Hi Sheri. This is Kim in Support. I had a border collie who lost her vision - I didn't have anything to keep her from bumping - she got the hang of that and your baby will too, but I did get her a pair of "doggles" - they looked like "Snoopy and the Red Baron" goggles that kept her from poking her eyes. She didn't love them but they allowed her to continue her rounding up of everything that needed to be rounded up inside and out without worry of eye damage :)

Hi Kim,
That's a great idea if she'll go for it. I think I might try the bumper halos they sell as well.

Do let us know how the bumper halos do.
Also, begin to work with an animal intuitive (or learn to listen well yourself) to help her navigate this transition. As always, we recommend you be working with a great homeopathic or chinese medicine veterinarian to prevent other illnesses.

Be sure you have studied the 101 course to make sure you are maximizing health.

At our welcome to Georgia Vet School picnic, the Dean's chihuahua was running around and having a great time. It was only towards the end of the event that we learned she was completely blind.

I have heard some people walk the dog through each room, over and over, to learn where everything is.

Maybe get a guide cat!

Hi Dr. Chrisitina,
Fibi has been at this stage for quite some time and though she knows her home very well, she can not understand where things are anyore, esp when it gets later in the day or she's anxiuos about food which is almost always. I only saw an ad for the Halo bumper that got me thinking there's an alternative to her bumping into everything. We do work with Dr. Herman regulalry. That is amazing that the Chihuahua is so active with no sight. I wonder how old the pup is..?

Thanks for your insights!

She was old - 15 or more.
animal intuitive may really help figure out what she needs to be happy and adjust. Maybe you'll find out she is actually having fun bumping into things!
See what Dr. Herman and homeopathy can do about the food anxiety.
I know many many dogs who have adapted very well.

I have a follow up question- When your dog can't see, hear or walk without pain what can we do to offer them the best quality of life? How will I manage her on a daily basis if her legs continue in the direction of weakness? We are geting her out for small walks now that the weather is warmer. I'm not certain if it's pushing her or not. She wants to keep up (I think) or I also feel she's confused and just walking in hopes that shes nearing the house.

PS- She gets Reiki/energy work every other week and I give her massage fequently.

She doesn't look like she's having much fun 99% of the time... The remedies have not helped with her food anxiety.
We work with an intuitive (she does the Reiki). She offers suggestions everytime she's here. More along the lines of what Fibi is thinking. I pretty much already know what Fibi is thinking bc I am intuitive with her.
Her comments are often; "Please don't touch me anytime! except after I've gotten my meal, snuffle mat and anything else you have for me. Then I'm okay with you kissing and massaging me for a short time. Then stop!" She also "says" "I don't like to be groomed in anyway. Also stop brushing my teeth or touching around my mouth with the washcloth." Things like this. But there's much more:)

Not having fun? Or not even wanting to be in her body?

If the latter, especially if you think she is in pain, then maybe it's time to let her go... 😥 :dog2:

She's not having much fun is what I meant. I understand what you're saying when that time comes tho:confused:
